WHO estimates reveal millions of foodborne illness deaths

Unsafe food is responsible for about 866 million illnesses and 1.5 million deaths a year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The number of illnesses and deaths show the burden is similar to that from tuberculosis, HIV, or malaria.
